St. Patrick Parish Property Survey Update

To recap, when the Parish approved Concept 2 to demolish the Rectory and potentially sever off 2 lots along Railton Road, it was believed that the church property was a rectangle approximately 100m x 200m. In essence extending from the brick bungalow North to Railton Road, and West from Sydenham Road to the vicinity of the 3rd hydro pole.

However, a survey by Hopkins Chitty Land Surveyors in December 2024 has confirmed that the property extends 400m down Railton Road, slightly beyond the end of the farm field. The footprint resembles a hockey stick in shape, rather than a rectangle. Please see the Google Earth Survey image (right).

This means that the two proposed lot severances (Parcel A and Parcel B) extend further down Railton Road beyond the fence line at the edge of the rear gravel parking lot.
​
This significantly simplifies the lot severance process. There would be no requirement to relocate the septic tank, envisaged previously for severing one of the lots in Concept 2. In addition, the archeological assessment is streamlined.

Well drilling is anticipated in early May 2025, respecting township road load restrictions.

The result of the parish vote on the future of the rectory is as follows:
Option 1 (sale): 34
Option 2 (demolition): 55
Total votes cast :89
Total eligible voters: 130
​
Option 2 has been selected by the parish for consideration (approval) by the Archbishop.
​
*Note that, in addition to the briefing on 5 March and the bulletin entries for the last three weeks, all eligible voters with email addresses were contacted by email.
Those that did not have an email address were contacted by telephone.

For privacy, Denise, the parish secretary, tabulated the votes on Monday, 25 March. She compared the voter to the eligibility list accordingly. Only Denise knows how individual parishioners voted.
